The Story of BC Coal

The Story of BC Coal

The town of Princeton was built on coal mines. Together with Vancouver Island and the Crow’s Nest Pass,
this area was one of three coal-mining hubs in southern BC. In this presentation Rika and Jon will share
some of the history of these mines incorporating the founding of towns, the building of railways and the
labour unrest that always accompany coal mining. The presentation will be enlivened with songs and
poems made by people who lived this history as well as with historical photographs.
Rika and Jon are singer-historians who have written books about BC history and who have studied and
sung the songs made by our forebears for over 50 years. The presentation will take place on March 1st
at 3:00 pm in the Princeton Museum.
